How it plays
Each question is read aloud and the microphone listens for your answer; typing works too. A wrong answer gets three tries, naming a different real phobia counts as a miss, and every answer shows where the word comes from — Greek arachnē, “spider”.
Modes
Quiz (timed) and Practice (untimed, answer shown on a miss) in Name the Phobia, Name the Fear or Mixed, across seven categories. Phobia Challenge is five minutes on every phobia, both ways round, with a shared leaderboard. Study Mode reads narrated flashcards, and the Phobia List is searchable.
Voice training
Teach it how you say the hard names: record yourself saying Arachnophobia or Triskaidekaphobia, accept the way the recogniser writes it (or type your own), and the quiz recognises you by voice — even when the recogniser hears nothing it can spell. Recordings stay in your browser.
Content
207 phobias in seven groups: animals, nature and the elements, body and health, people and social life, places and situations, objects, and numbers, ideas and the unknown — from Acrophobia to Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia.
Scoring
Ten points for a right first answer, five after a retry, plus up to five for speed when no hint was used.
